ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: Trainers from academia, civil society, and media from across Pakistan received an expert training on both democratic and didactic knowledge and skills in Islamabad from 15 to 17 June 2022.

The chief guest of the event, the former Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, delivered a keynote address on good governance. He said:

Pakistan's struggle was based on democratic devolution and for provincial autonomy and this demand generated the demand of Pakistan during the time of its independence. If we need good governance in Pakistan, the democratic devolution of power and resources is important to guarantee it.

Mr. Syed Shamoon Hashmi, Additional Secretary of the National Assembly of Pakistan, stressed on the importance of democratic and civic education to promote good governance. He also appreciated the efforts of HSF Pakistan in this regard.

HSF Pakistan Resident Representative Dr. Steffen Kudella stressed the following in a modification of a quote of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry:

We want to build ships of democracy in Pakistan – not by telling people to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders to others, but by teaching them about the depth and beauty of the open sea. When they want to travel this sea, they become the best of all shipbuilders!

The aim of three-days training was to strengthen Pakistan’s democracy through intensive support of relevant multipliers. In addition to this democratic support, the training also covered the communication knowledge and skills of the participants.

Mr. Zafarullah Khan, the former Executive Director of the Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Studies, Mr. Jami Chandio, the Executive Director of the Center for Peace and Civil Society, and Ms. Sonal Dhanani, the founder of the Parindey organization, were the master trainers of the event.
