German Scholarship Program

HSF provides scholarships to study at universities in Germany to young graduates and postgraduates who are exceptional in their academic performance. The eligible candidates are pre-selected by HSF Pakistan. The funding is granted for a span of five to 24 months depending on the project.

Comprehensive Support

HSF offers a merit-based German Scholarship Program for international students and young scholars of all faculties from Pakistan and South Asia (including Afghanistan). This scholarship program serves to support studies or research at universities or higher education institutions in Germany.

The German Scholarship Program includes generous funding, personal mentoring, a diverse seminar program, local activities in university groups, an international Young Leaders network, and a variety of additional capacity-building trainings. A detailed information flyer about the program can be found here.

Financial Support

The funding of the German Scholarship Program consists of:

  • up to 861 € per month for undergraduate and graduate students (fixed allowance for 5-24 months)
  • up to 1,200 € per month for Ph.D. students and young researchers (fixed allowance for 5-24 months)
  • up to 150 € one-off payment
  • the reimbursement of printing expenses (provided certain conditions are met)
  • the full coverage of a health insurance in Germany
  • the reimbursement of all major travel expenses to Germany and back to your home town

How to Apply?

Application Requirements

Applicants must:

  • hold a high school diploma or university degree with above-average grades (above 3.0 GPA)
  • be of less than 35 years of age
  • be actively engaged in voluntary work
  • show interest in current political and civil society developments
  • support democracy, the rule of law, and human rights
  • have solid German language skills (At least level B2)
  • be admitted to a German university or higher education institution (for students only)

Required Documents

To apply for the German Scholarship Program, the following documents are required: 

  • brief tabular curriculum vitae 
  • detailed curriculum vitae 
  • proof of German language proficiency: minimum level B2 (in German)
  • provisional time plan of the academic project 
  • recommendation letter confirming personal suitability and academic performance 
  • for Ph.D. students: letter from a teacher/lecturer confirming the academic supervision of the candidate
  • for students: written proof of enrolment to the German university 
  • for Ph.D. students and researchers: detailed description of the research project
  • other relevant certificates

 

Application Process

All applications must be submitted via the dedicated Scholarship Portal open from 15. December 2023 up to and including January 15, 2024. Details about the Scholarship Application and Portal are available at this Link.

Please also submit all required documents per e-mail to the HSF Pakistan Country Office at islamabad(at)hss.de. Initial applications are possible all year round (no deadline). If your application matches HSF’s requirements, you will be contacted for an interview.
